An Introduction to Cuban Council

CUBAN COUNCIL is a digital development agency which specializes in creating simply superb solutions for web & print & such.

Our areas of expertise range from UI, application and various forms of graphic design to iconography, multimedia authoring & complex back-end development.

The main Cuban Council offices are located in San Francisco and in New York, but we provide services for clients across the land & all over the world (we also have rather tiny offices in the fair cities of Copenhagen and Naperville).
As a group our goal is to design and develop digital solutions that are fun, usable, technically challenging, visually exciting and/or quirky.

If you or your company are looking for assistance with projects of that nature, please use the contact information a little bit further down on this page to get in touch with us.

The Cuban Council Work

Who We Are

The CUBAN COUNCIL management team is composed of three individuals — toke nygaard, michael schmidt, & michael buzzard.

They are 2 parts Danish, one part born & bred American, 33% bald and together they have worked on everything from huge CMS-controlled digital platforms to minimal independent websites.

Previously, they have all held “normal” jobs within the web industry, but, as so many before them, over the years they got tired of being stuck in the inner machinery of large bureaucracies. As a result of this Cuban Council was born in the summer of 2001.

Toke Nygaard: Likes the smell of leather & listening to old Dad Jazz on Sundays. Loathes the sound of people eating in commercials.
Michael Schmidt: Likes tattoos, comic books, Neil Gaiman, Jeff Noon, classic cars, and probably you. But not necessarily in that order.
Miguelito Buzzard: Likes IBM thinkpads MacBook Pros, travel, clean code and rainy sunny San Francisco afternoons.
Juan Añorga: Likes math, Ironbeer, 92% pure cocoa and warm Los Angeles afternoons. Loathes the smell of peanuts on airplanes.
Tara Cyphers: Likes rock and roll, scrummy puppies, traveling and good coffee. Hates cold weather and mean people.
Phil Ruppanner: Likes tacos, Steinbeck novels, indie rock, warm summer evenings and monkeys dressed in suits smoking cigars.
Anna Arbuckle: Likes minimal German music, and very square designs. Hates the smell of Manhattan in August.
Chris Forrette: Loves Vitamin Water™, spreads happiness like warm peanut butter, strives to make the Interweb a better place for us all.
Dana Steffe: Likes growing vegetables, Michigan in the summer, poppy music & baby animals. Dislikes polyester & stand-up comedy.
